Happy birthday to Ramón Sáez, who was born on this day in 1940, and died on June 18, 2013.
The Spanish rider is best known for finishing 3rd in the 1967 World Championship Road Race behind Eddy Merckx of Belgium and Jan Janssen of Holland.
In addition, Sáez racked up numerous stage victories in the Volta a Portugal, Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Vuelta a Mallorca Vuelta a España, Vuelta a Andalucía and Vuelta a Aragón during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
