Eddy Merckx Limited-Edition Frameset

To celebrate cycling’s biggest icon, the brand that bears his name, is launching a limited edition $17,500 bike.

The bike marks the first of a new line of steel bikes coming from Merckx – called the Heritage Collection.

The Heritage Collection is said to draw its inspiration from past colors and geometry – reminiscent of the Cannibal’s infamous bikes of the 1970’s and 80’s.

The EDDY70 will become available on January 28, and will be limited to just – you guessed it – 70 numbered models.

However, not surprising, only 69 will actually be available for purchase, as #1 has been reserved for Merckx himself.

Those fortunate to secure one, can choose a number between 2 and 70, with each bike receiving Merckx’s signature on the frame.

The frames are TIG-welded from stainless steel, and feature a carbon fork. In addition, they will be equipped with a Campagnolo Super Record groupset, Campagnolo Bora Ultra 35 wheels and a fashionable Cinelli seat.

“Everyone knows that I was always obsessively focused on the equipment that I rode on. That is still the case now. And as a result, I wanted only the best and most modern components and materials for this bike. The aim was absolutely to make a high performance, contemporary racing bike and not a replica of my old racing bike,” Merckx said.

Proud owners can follow the build process of their bike on Facebook. And, upon delivery, which, incidentally, will be on Merckx’s birthday on July 17, they will receive a handsome photo book signed by the legend himself.
