LUMO Apparel Seeks Crowd Funding

There’s wanting to be "seen", that’s the style part, and there’s being "seen", that’s the safety part. But, all too often, the twain never meet – at least when it comes to cycling apparel.

However, a small start-up in the UK called, LUMO, is trying to change all of that, with the launch of a new range of cycling apparel that combines fashion and functionality – that results in safety. But, before these togs ever see the light of day (yes, that was pun), some crowd funding must get underway.

Check out their vigorous KickStarter campaign, and help them get one arm in the sleeve !

About this project

We design cycling apparel to be seen in, on and off a bike.

We’ve taken design inspiration from classic British outer-garments and bags and combined them with state-of-the-art wearable technology features with cycling firmly in mind. Our jackets and bags feature subtle in-built LED lights that make you more visible than a fluorescent jacket, yet are completely concealed until they are switched on. Using fabrics that wouldn’t look out of place in a designer clothes store yet come straight from a science lab, you will look and feel as good riding a bike as you will walking into a bar.

Designed for the eye, built for the bike.

Should you wish to purchase a reward as a Christmas present, we will send you a beautiful printed gift card detailing the description of your redeemable item. Available until 08:00AM Monday 15th December (GMT). Please drop us a message once you have pledged with the name and address of where you would like it sent to. All Kickstarter backers will receive a lifetime 10% discount in the LUMO webstore, and will get priority access to all LUMO events and special offers.

A contemporary twist on the iconic British Harrington style, the Herne Hill has been crafted from 100% Gabardine Cotton twill and lined with a contrast bonded Chambray. This luxurious fabric has been treated with world-leading Schoeller® 3XDRY® technology to add functional performance to its sharp looks. Comes in mens and women’s specific cuts. Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL.

Drawing inspiration from vintage British military rucksacks, the Bermondsey is a versatile roll top backpack designed for city cycling. Constructed with beautiful yet rugged 100% British waxed cotton canvas, these bags get even better with age and form a unique character over time. Width: 30cm, height: 46cm (60cm with rolltop open), depth: 14cm

Taking a slim fit cotton polo and adding a dash of cycling heritage in the detailing, the Camden is perfect for summer days and evenings. Made from a dapper cotton piqué with a touch of Lycra® for riding comfort and a moisture-wicking Hydry® finish to keep you cool and dry. Comes in mens and women’s specific cuts. Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL

A fresh take on the traditional French casquette, the Wembley melds vintage styling with state-of-the-art yarns and fabrics. Ideal for keeping both sun and rain at bay, the Wembley also brightens up any dark evening. One size fits all.

STRETCH TARGET: £100,000

If we reach £100,000/~$160,000USD, we’ll release the Regents Parka as an reward option to all backers starting at £300/~$480. You will be able to change from your chosen reward or upgrade from an existing pledge by clicking “Manage Your Pledge.”

The Regents is a futuristic adaptation of the 1960’s classic mod Parka. Schoeller® C_Change™ fabric combines a sleek wool-based exterior with the very best in membrane technology, making it water- and wind-resistant, breathable and reactive to body temperature: keeping you cool when it’s hot and warm when it’s cold. Available in mens and women’s specific cuts. Sizes XS, S, M, L, XL

What happens when you combine the latest in advanced Ultra-High Brightness (UHB) LED technology and a patent-pending system for integrating them into jacket and bag designs? We have worked with the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of wearable electronics technology, to develop a unique and distinct lighting system that improves your visibility to other road traffic and is completely hidden until switched on.

We want to make sure your item fits you perfectly. We will get in touch with you via email after the campaign to ask a couple of questions to ensure we provide you with the size that’s right for you. For reference, the jackets and polos are both available in mens and women’s specific cuts and sizes XS, S, M, L, XL.

We have developed and tested final prototypes of all of our styles and are ready to go to production. On reaching our funding goal of £50,000 (~$80,000), your pledges will go directly towards taking the very first LUMO London Collective range from final prototype stage into production.

WHAT WE STAND FOR

City cyclists don’t just dress for the journey, we dress for the destination too. Until now, high quality cycling wear has largely been targeted at weekend warriors. We want to change that and make beautiful garments that are designed for city riding and living. Our mission is to help as many people as possible to experience the realisation that cycling is the most sustainable and satisfying way of getting from A to B. That’s why we’re also pledging to donate 10% of our profits annually to projects and charities that help to get people onto bikes. Cycling shouldn’t be a privilege, it should be an accessible mode of transport for everyone.
