A belated happy birthday to Moreno Argentin who was born on December 17, 1960.

The Italian is regarded as being an excellent all around rider, with victories ranging from prestigious one day Classics, to podium finishes in the Grand Tours.

Here’s a list of his most notable accomplishments: 

– won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic four times, in 1985, 1986, 1987, and 1991 – just one race shy of  

  Eddy  Merckx’s record of five victories. 

– won the Tour of Flanders three times in 1990, 1981 and 1994 and is tied with

  Marcel Kint andEddy Merckx for the record of victories. 

– won the Tour of Flanders Classic in 1990 and the Tour of Lombardy Classic in 

  1987.

– was 3rd in the 1984 Giro d’Italia behind Francesco Moser of Italy and Laurent

  Fignon of France.

– won the 1986 World Championship Road Race in a two-man sprint against

  Charly Mottet of France.

– was also 2nd in the 1987 World Championship Road Race behind Stephen

  Roche of Ireland.

– was 3rd in the 1985 World Championship Road Race behind Joop Zoetemelk of

  Holland and Greg Lemond of the USA.
