ARTCRANK “I Can Fly” in Paris

ARTCRANK and Vélib’ Collaborate on “I Vélib’, I Can Fly” in Paris

We’re proud to announce our second creative collaboration with Vélib’, the bikeshare for the city Paris, which opens on April 2 in Paris. In the days and weeks ahead, we’ll share previews of the posters created by French and American artists for this exhibit that celebrates exploring Paris by bike. Here’s the press release for “I Vélib’, I Can Fly” with details on the show in English and French. Allez! Allez! Allez!

“I Vélib’, I Can Fly” Cycling-Inspired Prints by International Artists Reveal a New Perspective on Paris.

From April 2 to May 16, Paris Rendez-Vous will host the exhibition “I Vélib’ I Can Fly.” 19 international artists, passionate about the urban world of cycling, will unveil new works that interpret their vision of riding a Vélib’ bike in Paris. The press service invites you to an opening reception with the artists on Thursday, April 2 at 4pm.

Since its launch in 2007, Vélib’ has become a veritable icon of Paris, inspiring artists around the world and reflecting the Parisian lifestyle. The city of Paris and JCDecaux have collaborated with the U.S.-based bicycle poster collective ARTCRANK to bring together French, American, and British artists, all devotees of cycling, to interpret this iconic symbol through handmade, silkscreened posters. The “I Vélib’, I Can Fly” exhibition will take place from April 2 to May 15 at Paris Rendez-Vous, the concept store of the City Hall of Paris.

The 19 original, limited-edition silkscreen prints invite Parisians to dive deep into a new artistic universe that showcases Paris as it is explored by bicycle. A diverse array of compositions will be on display – dreamlike, symbolic, and humorous.

Workshops and creation spaces will allow visitors to express in turn what they feel on a Vélib’ bike ride through the capital city. Every Saturday from 3 to 5 pm, artists will hold workshops to introduce the young and old alike to the art of silkscreen printmaking.

To complement the exhibition, Vélib’ will join Le Slip Français to introduce a “I Vélib’, I Can Fly” capsule fashion collection. 100% made in France, these t-shirts, bags, underwear and espadrilles will get Parisians ready for summer! Opening night, Thursday, April 2, visitors can discover the collection while enjoying musical ambience created by Tourne Disque.

Image Républic has created small souvenir prints of the original posters so visitors can take home a memento of the exhibition. They will be available at Paris Rendez-Vous and online at boutique.paris.fr.
