Bell Zephyr MIPS Helmet

Bell might be the only company (certainly one of the very few) who offers an “aero helmet” which combines style, comfort and safety that for the first-time isn’t “laboratory ugly”.

Utilizing an innovative design which Bell calls “bifurcated body construction,” the inner construction of its new Zephyr helmet is comprised of  low-density EPS foam to help minimize forces at lower impact speeds, while the outer body relies upon conventional EPS foam to protect against more severe crashes.

In addition, Bell furthers the Zephyr’s protective capabilities by varying the relative thickness of both foam liners throughout the helmet based on data that suggests which areas are likely to make contact with the ground during a crash. Moreover, both liners are wrapped with their own individual polycarbonate shells, which are first mechanically interlocked and then bonded together.

Even more, the Zephyr is equipped with a low-friction MIPS (Multi-directional Impact Protection System) liner, which is designed to reduce the amount of rotational force transmitted to a cyclist’s brain during certain crash scenarios.

Other features include, Bell’s new Float Fit Race retention system, lightweight internal webbing, adjustable rear pads, a sophisticated height adjustment and retention system, a “sweat management system” that consists of X-Static antimicrobial material which wraps around the lower front edge of the helmet and lots of ventilation, along with reflective materials that have been placed in key areas.

At 280g in a size medium, the Zephyr is far from the lightest helmet in its class. However, having met world-wide safety standards, combined with its MIPS protection system, it may prove to be the safest.

THE ROAD REINVENTED

RELENTLESSLY INNOVATIVE

From lung-searing cyclocross laps to long days filled with steep climbs, Zephyr fits and feels so good that you’ll forget it’s there. That’s the whole point. The most innovative road cycling helmet Bell has ever created follows years of research, analysis and real-world testing. The result? An uncompromising combination of performance. It starts with Progressive Layering technology, a joining of two EPS segments that have different densities to help manage impact energies. The overall shape, tested and re-tested at our world class test lab, combines all-around aero performance with head-cooling ventilation. And the new Float Fit Race retention system, featuring height and width-adjustable cradles and an easy-to-turn dial, is optimized for the new Integrated MIPS system. Together, they create a brilliantly streamlined solution to reducing rotational forces with zero compromises in comfort and fit. Just what you need for your longest, hardest days in the saddle.
