CycleOps Unveils New “Hammer” Direct Drive Indoor Trainer

With Old Jack Frost already on scene in many parts of the world, with Old Man Winter right around the corner to take over the task of being in the cold, it’s that time of year again when even the most die-hard roadies seek refuge from the elements and retreat to their indoor trainers. But, even the most dedicated cyclists can be discourage by the monotony associated with a trainer that lacks the ability to simulate feel of being out on the open road.

However, CycleOps’ latest trainer, the Hammer, takes direct-drive technology to a new level, featuring a massive 20lb flywheel that can replicate real world riding conditions using electromagnetic resistance that not only provides rapid response resistance, but can handle 2000W of power at 20mph and simulate gradients up to 20%.

According to the President of CycleOps, Jeff Frehner, “we’ve been producing some of the best virtual trainers since the dawn of this technology,” adding “we care deeply about providing the best, most entertaining bike training experience possible. We are excited to get the Hammer into the pain caves, basements and training spaces of all types of cyclists.”

In addition to its advanced electromagnetic drive control, the Hammer also features compatibility with thru-axle widths of 142 or 148, as well as quick release forks ranging from 130 and 135mm.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the Hammer features both ANT+ FE-C and Bluetooth 4.0 technologies, allowing it to connect with most devices and training applications such as CycleOps’ own VirtualTraining, Zwift, and Trainer Road.

Additionally, the Hammer can be easily folded up and stored when not in use, and it’s compatible with virtually any 8, 9, 10 or 11 speed cassette.

This direct drive style bike trainer eliminates the tire-to-roller contact, and is capable of replicating any outdoor ride from conversational group rides to rolling hills to pain face inducing 20% grades. All of this is done with a smooth, road-like-feel thanks to a massive 20 lb. precision-balanced flywheel that replicates real world inertia better than anyone else. Paired with our innovative, rapid response electromagnetic resistance system and you’ve got a bike trainer that can cover large resistance changes in a blink of an eye at a whisper quiet 64 decibels. Plus, the Hammer’s revolutionary axle compatibility gives you the freedom to choose any thru-axle or quick release bike now and for years to come. Simply add a cassette, pop off your rear wheel, connect to your favorite virtual training software and prepare to Hammer away.
