Collaborations between marque automobile companies and bike brands are nothing new. Colnago was perhaps the first to do so with Ferrari decades ago, joining two iconic Italian houses in pursuit of two-wheel perfection instead of the usual four.
The latest to embark upon such a partnership are De Rosa and the vaunted Italian automobile design firm of Pininfarina to create the Metamorphosis sport bike.
Pininfarina has designed bikes alongside De Rosa before such as company’s flagship SK road bike, as well as a couple of high end e-bikes under its own name as well. But, the Metamorphosis is being touted as “the first sport utility bike in the world designed by De Rosa and Pininfarina.”
While neither company has been very forthcoming with details about the Metamorphosis, there’s every indication the bike features an intricately molded monocoque carbon fiber frame, hydraulic disc brakes and a belt drive system coupled to Shimano’s 8-speed Alfine rear hub transmission.
Deep-pocketed customers can choose between three frame sizes, along with an “Urban” or “Gravel” configuration, which are distinguished by either a flat or drop style handlebar.
There’s currently no word on availability or pricing, but needless to say, lucky recipients should expect to lay down plenty of lira.
