“Go deep” is no longer a phrase relegated to the pages of the football “playbook”, as more and more wheel brands are heeding the call for deeper section aero wheels.
The latest to answer this call is Easton, with the launch of its tubeless ready EC90 Aero85 Disc wheelset, which as the name implies, features a massively deep 85mm rim profile, along with a 19mm internal width that can accommodate tires up to 25mm.
At the center of the wheelset is Easton’s prized Vault hubset, which features a robust 60-tooth drive ring that’s built into the free-hub body, along with three pawls that provide 6 degrees of engagement.
Additionally, the hubs also feature centerlock disc brake mounts and 24 straight pull Sapim CX-Ray spokes, as well as the ability to swap between traditional quick-release skewers and 12x142mm thru-axles.
According to Easton, the combination matte/gloss finish brings the weight of the EC90 Aero85 Disc wheelset to 1,827g, while pricing comes in at $1099 for the front wheel and $1199 for the rear, or $2299 for the set, with availability starting in mid-April.
