In a quest to make upscale cycling shoes more affordable, Fizik has unveiled its latest “asymmetric” Tempo Overcurve R5 road shoe.
The R5 is one of the first new models from Fizik’s new Tempo road shoe range, and introduces the brand’s new ergonomic Overcurve fitting system.
The new Overcurve closure design features a staggered collar wrapping around the ankle, with a distinctly asymmetrical shape, formed to follow the natural misalignment of the two bony protrusions from either side of the ankle. Moreover, the Tempo Overcurve R5 shoe’s upper curves over the foot from its outer to its inner side.
Fizik says its closure system is one of the fastest and most secure, thanks to the shoe’s combination of a micro-adjustable BOA IP1 dial along with a shorter Velcro strap for a ‘fine tune fit’ of the forefoot area.
“We are pleased to bring the new Tempo Overcurve R5 shoes to market,” said Luca Mathia Bertoncello, fizik’s brand director. “Showcasing the versatile new Tempo shoe construction and R5 outsole provides an ideal platform on which to deliver the all-new Overcurve system.”
“A study in ergonomic design, its form follows the natural shape created by the lateral and medial malleoli protrusions on either side of the ankle – the asymmetric shape lends itself to an overlapping curve along and across the rider’s foot. It means a technically superior fit option to rival many others available.”
The Fizik Tempo Overcurve R5 is available in five colorways in sizes ranging from EU 36-48 (37-47 also in half sizes), which sells for a very reasonable price of $149.
