A belated happy birthday to Jean Brankart, who was born on July 12, 1930.
The Belgian rider is best known for finishing 2nd in the 1955 Tour de France behind Louison Bobet of France.
In addition, Brankart was also 2nd in the 1958 Giro d’Italia behind Ercole Baldini of Italy, and won the Mountains Jersey in the that year’s Giro as well.
Additionally, Brankart won his country’s National Track Pursuit Championships 1956, ’58 and ’59, as well as several lesser known races throughout Belgium.
