The British sportive event, L’Etape Wales (aka The Dragon Ride), welcomes none-other than Didi “The Devil” Senft to orchestrate his merriment amongst the roadside fans during this year’s race.
Over the past 25 years Didi has become one of the Tour de France’s most recognizable characters, often seen jumping up and down along the side of the road while donning his traditional red devil’s suit and pitch fork as the peloton rolls past.
Didi has expanded his devilish act, to see participants off at the Dragon Ride’s depart from Port Talbot, before rejoining them at the race’s famous Devil’s Elbow climb, which features steep grades upwards of 20%.
This year’s ascent of the Devil’s Elbow will once again be timed, with the winners of the King’s and Queen’s category receiving a Polka Dot jersey signed by Chris Froome.
As for those who find themselves struggling along the climb, Didi will be alongside to encourage the “Hell” out of them.
