New Fiberglass Cable Housing Reduces Weight and Increases Performance

The Taiwanese brand Alligator, has launch a new cable technology that utilizes fiberglass as the outer-housing in order to reduce weight and increase performance in bicycle shifter cables.

According to Alligator, they were able to accomplish this by using fiberglass to reduce the diameter of traditional shifter cable housing from five millimeters to four, resulting in a 50% reduction in weight.

Additionally, Alligator says fiberglass not only makes for a more durable cable, but it doesn’t corrode over time like traditional wire housing can. Moreover,  the company claims shifting is improved considerably, as tests have shown that fiberglass is as much as 8% more accurate, despite requiring a bit more force, especially when shifting up.

Alligator offers its fiberglass cable housing for all Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM drivetrain systems, which in some instances can also work with braking as well, provide the internal cable is compatible.

The Alligator fiberglass cables are sold as do-it-yourself kits.
