Taking aim at some of the big players such as GoPro, Nikon announced its entry into the action camera market at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), with the launch of their new KeyMission 360, which is capable of recording true 360-degree video in 4K UHD, that according to the Japanese camera giant, “allows users to share new perspectives and explore imagery like never before”.

The KeyMission 360 features an image sensor and lens on opposite sides of the camera, wherein images from each side are combined to create a single immersive, ultra-high-definition 360-degree video and still image.

Waterproof (approx. 100 ft./30m) and ready to stand up to dust, shock and low temperatures, the KeyMission 360 also features electronic Vibration Reduction (VR), enabled through applications during playback, that reduce the effects of camera shake to help produce sharp and crisp video quality, all the while being able to withstand the elements.

Additionally, the KeyMission 360 will be available with a variety of dedicated accessories, which Nikon says they will be releasing more details on when the camera becomes available in the spring.

For now, check out the video.
