Pirelli and Castelli Partner on Cycling Apparel

Now that Pirelli has reentered the bicycle tire market, the company not only wants its customers to burn rubber, they want them to look good while doing so.

With that in mind, the storied Italian tire brand has partnered with Castelli to create a limited series of cycling apparel.

Based on Castelli’s upper end Marathon, Climber’s 2.0  and Aero Race 5.1 jerseys and Free Aero Race shorts, Pirelli is calling its new range the Capsule Collection, which comprises three jerseys and two bibshorts.

According to Pirelli, “state-of-the-art technical clothing is a “must-have” that makes all the difference in sport. However, the perfect garment should not only offer top performance, but also style. For this reason Pirelli has decided to work with Castelli, an Italian company that leads the field in this sector, with years of experience serving some of the greatest professional cyclists. The result is a special capsule collection inspired by the P ZERO Velo line of tires that combines the unmistakable style of Pirelli Design with Castelli’s expertise in sportswear.”

“Silver is the color that distinguishes P ZERO Velo, the versatile tyre for road races. Silver (and yellow) is also color of this Pirelli brand, and the Marathon Jersey: a lightweight, practical capsule top perfect for both training and racing. Worth noting, the arrow design on the rear pocket that links to the tread pattern. Blue, on the other hand, is the color of the Climber’s 2.0 Jersey, fitting in perfectly with the 4S line and the P ZERO Velo all season tires. This jersey features maximum breathability, to make mountain climbs just that little bit easier and summer rides cooler. This, too, has the arrow design on the rear pocket. The top-of-the-range jersey in this collection is the Aero Race 5.1 with a red line, a direct reference to the red label slick tyres in the P ZERO Velo TT series. Here Castelli has achieved perfection in terms of aerodynamics and lightness, making this the fastest ever jersey: the fabrics used have been proved to save 22 Watt at 40 km/h in the wind tunnel compared to a normal bike jersey. This is a capsule that’s not just aerodynamic, but also comfortable to wear and strong.”

Pirelli has yet to announce pricing for its Capsule Collection, or even if it will be available to us yanks.

But, suffice to say, it won’t come cheap.
