To mark the 100th edition of this year’s Giro d’Italia, Rapha introduces its special edition Coppi Collection.
Paying homage to the great Fausto Coppi, these special edition pieces echo the style of the era, rich with all the flair and detail you’d expect from a celebration of Il Campionissimo.
The Coppi Collection includes everything from special edition jerseys and matching shorts, silk scarves, caps and socks, and even a tracksuit.
Given Coppi’s tenure with Team Bianchi for most of this career, Rapha created the Coppi Celeste Merino Jersey, which regals both the team and iconic bike brand’s unmistakeable celeste green livery.
The Coppi Nera Merino Jersey draws inspiration from the Maglia Nera, the black jersey awarded to the last man to finish the race. This jersey was first introduced in 1946 and the black color was chosen because it was the color of the jersey that Giuseppe Ticoezzelli wore, a soccer who rode the Giro as an independent in 1926.
The Coppi Flyweight Jersey celebrates Coppi’s first victory in the Giro in 1940. The jersey is based on the company’s regular Flyweight jersey and uses a highly technical perforated fabric to excel in hot conditions, and is finished with a profile of the 11th stage of that race, including the Abetone climb on which Coppi attacked in rain and hail to take the pink jersey for the first time.
The Coppi Tracksuit, which emulates the tracksuits worn by racers during Coppi’s era, and still very much favored by the professional peloton these days.
The tracksuit comprises two separate parts, the Coppi Merino Warm Up Jacket and the Coppi Merino Warm Up Trouser, with both bring made in Italy using a double knit fabric for warmth and softness next to the skin, and embroidered details.
The Coppi Pack Jacket is based on Rapha’s standard City Pack Jacket, albeit with a new design inspired by Coppi.
To tie in the whole ensembles, Rapha has rounded out the Coppi Collection, with both a stylish cycling cap and scarf that would even impress Capo di Capi himself.
