Rapha’s New Pro Team Lightweight Shadow Jacket Spotted at Liege-Bastogne-Liege

Rapha’s new Pro Team Lightweight Shadow jacket was spotted at this year’s Liege-Bastogne-Liege under the auspices of team EF Education First, who had ample opportunity to test the jacket during the adverse weather conditions La Doyenne threw at them throughout the 256 kilometer cobbled classic.

According to Rapha, the new jacket is constructed using the same durable water repellent (DWR) treatment as the previous Shadow jacket, but with a new fabric that’s even lighter and stronger than its predecessor.

Thanks to the DWR treatment, the British brand goes on to claim that the jacket is capable of  “warding off biting wind and keeping the rider dry in all but the most concerted of downpours, while also regulating body temperature.”

The Pro Team Lightweight Shadow jacket is available in dark navy, green grey and yellow, and sells for £200.00.

Our proprietary Shadow fabric is back, but not as you’ve seen it before. Constructed using the same technique of stretch weaving yarns dipped in a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment, our new fabric incorporates fabrics that are just as strong but even lighter. Treated for a second time with DWR, the technology is used to create an out-of-the-pocket jacket that combines feathery weight with unparalleled wind and water-resistant properties.

The jacket will ward off biting wind and all but the most concerted of downpours yet, since the fabric eliminates the need for a membrane, it also breathes exceptionally well to regulate body temperature effectively. The woven fabric also provides an element of mechanical stretch and wraps around a rider’s body to create a tight ‘race’ fit. A full-length, two-way zip allows for easy adjustments on the fly while a reflective armband and logos vastly improve your visibility while riding through the gloom. Minimal, elasticated closures at the cuffs and the hem hold the jacket in place while keeping bulk to a minimum, helpful when stuffing the jacket into a jersey pocket.
