Bryan Coquard (Europcar) claimed the 4th and final stage of this year’s Route du Sud, after the peloton caught the day’s breakaway group inside the final 3 kilometers – to finish comfortably ahead of Lorenzo Manzin (FDJ) and Leonardo Duque (Cofidis).
Meanwhile, Alberto Contador (Saxo-Tinkoff) finished safely in the peloton, to secure the overall race victory, 17 seconds ahead of Nairo Quintana (Movistar), with the young French rider Pierre-Roger Latour (Ag2r La Mondiale) rounding out the final podium in third spot – at 41 seconds behind.
Today’s victory was both a morale booster for Contador, as he prepares for next month’s Tour de France, as well as a hard earned addition to his growing list of palmares this season, after winning the Giro d’Italia last month.
