A belated happy birthday to Silvano Contini, who was born on January 15, 1958.

The Italian rider is best known for finishing 3rd in the 1982 Giro d’Italia behind Bernard Hinault of France and Tommy Prim of Sweden.

In addition, Contini also won the 1982 Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic, as well as the Grand Prix du Midi Libre in 1985 and Trofeo Baracchi in 1983 alongside Daniel Gisiger.

During his career as a professional rider, Contini rode for such prestigious teams as Bianchi – Faema, Bianchi – Piaggio, Ariostea, Gis Gelati, Del Tongo and Malvor – Bottecchia – Sidi.

Contini retired from racing in 1990 after 12 years as a professional rider. 

Nowadays, he resides in the Lombardia region of Italy where he was born.
