While there’s nothing short of a dizzying array of GPS smartwatches on the market, with each company touting functionality that surpasses the competition, one brand has always stood-out amongst the competition as being the Patek Philippe of sportswatches – Suunto.

The Finnish company has upped the ante with its new Spartan Ultra, which not only equals the functionality of its competitors, but far exceeds  them in terms of elegance and craftsmanship.

As the successor to Suunto’s popular Ambit3, the Spartan Ultra collection is available in four models, the all Black Titanium and Stealth Titanium, along with White and Black options.

According to Suunto, the Spartan Ultra range is water resistant up to 100 meters and features a color touch screen display with a wide viewing angle to improve visibility in bright sunlight.

In terms of multisport features, users get guided route navigation thanks to the built-in GPS, barometric altitude readings and a digital compass. The Spartan Ultra also comes with a built-in heart rate sensor, but that’ll cost you extra.

In addition, there’s plenty of preset sport modes including triathlon, swimming, cycling running and snow sports with different types of training for both beginners and more advanced athletes. Users are also able to see rest and recovery data and get help to prepare a proper training plan. Furthermore, they can use it as an activity tracker as well, monitoring their steps, calories and active time throughout the day.

Additionally, said data can be reviewed on the Suunto Movescount mobile application, which is compatible with both Android and iPhones.

The Suunto Spartan Ultra range starts at $699 with the Titanium version bumping up the price to $920. If you want one with a heart rate sensor built in, then you’ll need to add an extra $100.
