Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) claimed stage 6 of this year’s Tirreno-Adriatico, marking the Slovakian rider’s first win of the season.

Indeed, Sagan went on to beat Gerald Ciolek (MTN – Qhubeka) and Jens Debusschere in a sprint finish, after 210 kilometers of racing from Rieti to Porto Sant’Elpidio.

Meanwhile, Nairo Quintana (Movistar) retained his lead in the overall classification – 39 second ahead of Bauke Mollema (Trek Factory Racing).

Race Highlights

A small breakaway group containing Stijn Devolder (Trek Factory Racing), Yukiya Arashiro (Europcar) and Alessandro Vanotti (Astana), succeeded in riding clear of the main field during the final 40 kilometers of today’s race. But, despite their valiant effort, the escapees were eventually reeled in by the peloton during the final 5 kilometers.

From there, MTN – Qhubeka proceeded to positioned their man, Ciolek, at the front for the final sprint. However, Sagan read their moves to perfection, as the Tinkoff-Saxo rider came around Ciolek inside the final 150 meters to snatch the victory.
