Ellen Van Loy initially set the pace for today’s race, with Lechner, Cant and Anderson following in her slipstream. However, at one point, Lechner took over the lead with only Cant and Anderson able to follow, while Van Loy fell back into the main field.
It was in the final lap that Cant made her move – leaving Lechner and Anderson to battle it out for second place.
Suffering from a sore throat, Cant said that she rode somewhat of a reserved race today – while trying “not to go too deep .”
“I just had to wait until the moment they sat down to use my final attack again,” she said.
Today was a good day for the Americans, as Crystal Anthony, Courtney McFadden and Maureen Bruno all finished in respectable positions at fifth, eight and tenth spots – with Nicole Duke just missing the top-10 in 11th position.
