Kirsten Wild won the opening stage of the 2014 Ladies Tour of Qatar – successfully holding off her rivals in a sprint finish in Mesaieed today.
With 200 meters remaining, the defending champion executed a well timed sprint – holding off late challenges from Shelley Olds and Chloe Hosking.
Olds managed to placed her team at the head of the peloton in the closing kilometers – just as the Orica-GreenEDGE team began it’s lead-out as well. However, both Olds and Hosking became isolated in the pack – effectively allowing Wild to move up into the lead and hold on for the victory.
