Kirsten Wild won stage 3 of the 2014 Ladies Tour of Qatar today.
Today’s win not only marked her second victory in this year’s race, but it also reclaimed the overall leader’s jersey for her as well.
The 93 kilometer stage from Katara to Al Khor Corniche, saw a breakaway group – containing the top ten riders of the overall classification – form early on.
The wide open open roads of Qatar served to split the original breakaway into several groups. However, Wild, along with Emma Johansson and Loes Gunnewijk, managed to cover all attacks – with Wild managing to retain enough strength to contest the sprint.
Shelley Olds was the first to open up the sprint. However, the American quickly faded. From there, Wild initiated a powerful attack which saw her accelerate past British champion Lizzie Armitstead to take the sprint. Aussie – Chloe Hosking finished in third place.
Bonus seconds in today’s stage, gave Wild a nine second lead- heading into tomorrow’s final stage.
