Chantal Blaak (Boels Dolmans) continued her winning ways, after claiming today’s Boels Ronde van Drenthe, marking the Dutch rider’s second victory this season after winning the Le Samyn des Dames earlier this month.
Race Highlights
Blaak, Gracie Elvin (Orica-AIS), Trixi Worrack (Canyon SRAM) and Anna van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) kept the pace high the first half of today’s cobbled race, with Blaak claiming the pavé sprint with at the 61 kilometer mark.
From there, the four leaders remained out front for the duration of the race, while several crashes would plague the peloton as they chased in earnest.
Heading into the final circuit, Van der Bergen was the first rider to attack her breakaway companions, but Blaak was there to mark her move.
Next came Elvin during the final bend, but Blaak once again was quick to counter, subsequently running down the Australian rider just before the line.
As Blaak celebrated her victory, Worrack and Van der Breggen fought to the line, and the German took the final podium spot with a well-timed bike throw.
