Last month we reported that Cervelo had plans to launch a new, more affordable road bike model called – the R2.
Well, as of today, the Canadian brand announced the official launch of it’s new entry level bike.
As previously mentioned, the new R2 uses the same frame as the R3, however, in order to keep the price down, Cervelo has paired it with a new more cost effective carbon fork, along with Shimano’s 105 11-speed groupset, RS10 wheels and Vittoria Rubino Pro tires.
At $2500, the R2 is Cervelo’s most reachable full carbon to date. And, it features the same geometry, Squoval tube profiles and future-proof cable routing setup, as the R3. Again, the only significant difference is in the fork, wherein the R2 uses a less costly one from that which is found on the R3.
Cervelo claims the R2 ‘s frame weighs in at an impressive sub-1000g, to include carbon fiber dropouts. That’s quite remarkable for a bike of this price – to say the least.
Overview
Employing much of the leading-edge technology and engineering found through out the rest of the R series, the R2 is a bike that performs up to the standards of professional level riders and is outfitted for practicality and durability. Using the same frame as our R3, the R2 is lighter than the competition and far more aerodynamic. Future-Proof Cable Management means that your R2 will work with any future upgrades. With this much value in one bike, it is time to step up to pro-level performance.
ENGINEERING
Carbon Dropouts
Tough, compression-molded dropouts save weight with no sacrifice in strength versus traditional metal dropouts.

Future-Proof Cable Management
Future-Proof Cable Management ensures your frame is compatible with all current and future derailleur and brake systems.
AERO, SIMPLICITY
Squoval
A library of shapes that combine the attributes of a square and an oval to achieve an ideal balance of stiffness, weight, and aerodynamics.
AERO, STIFFNESS, WEIGHT
Evolved Steerer Design
Different frame designs call for different steerer dimensions. We use the right dimension in the right application.

Reduced-Friction BB Guide
Smooth shifting that is easy to set up is no accident. Designing shifting requires a detailed approach. Small details have a huge impact.
SIMPLICITY
BBright
BBright increases system stiffness and reduces frame weight while allowing for a large range of crank compatibility in a modern press fit system.
