Nacer Bouhanni claimed stage 4 of this year’s Giro d’Italia, in a sprint finish in the City of Bari today, after officials decided to neutralize the race – following a series of late crashes and protests from riders regarding hazardous conditions caused by rain and ice.
Indeed, riders entered the final finishing circuit at a greatly reduced pace out of concerns for safety, until race officials decided that times for the overall classification would be taken with one lap and 8.3 kilometers to go.
Meanwhile, Giacomo Nizzolo finished second in the sprint, with Tom Veelers (Giant-Shimano) third, with Michael Matthews retaining his overall lead in the race..
Marcel Kittel did not start today’s stage as a result of illness.
