Happy birthday to Lucien Aimar was born on this day in 1941.
The French rider is best known for winning the 1966 Tour de France in front of Jan Janssen of Holland and Raymond Poulidor of France.
In addition, Aimar was the French National Champion in 1963 and 1968. He also won numerous lesser known one-day races throughout the 1960 and early 70’s.
After retiring from racing, Aimar went on to become a technical adviser for cycling in the Provence-Côte d’Azur region, and later an organizer of the Tour Mediterraneen.
