Organizers of the Tour de France, the Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), announced today, the Grand Départ for the 2016 Tour will begin in the City of Manche, which is located in the Lower Normandy region.
Today’s announcement, marks the return of the race’s opening stage to French soil, following this year’s start in Yorkshire, and next year’s depart in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Manche last hosted the Tour de France in 2013, with a 33 kilometer individual time trial event – between Avranches and Mont Saint-Michel. The City first took part in the Tour de France in 1911.
The ASO plans to announce the full details of the stages to be held in Manche, during a press conference in Mont-Saint-Michel on December 9.
