Tim Wellens (Lotto Belisol) won the penultimate stage of this year’s Tour of Eneco today, after initiating an attack from within a 30-rider peloton, during the waning moments of today’s race.
Wellens’ performance today, not only netted him the stage victory, but also earned him the overall race lead – after crossing the finish line 7 seconds ahead of Lars Boom, and 13 seconds ahead of Tom Dumoulin.
Wellens began today’s stage almost a minute down on yesterday’s race leader – Tom Dumoulin. However, his perfectly timed attack along today’s undulating parcours, gave him enough of a impetus, to hold-off his rivals to the line.
The Tour of Eneco concludes tomorrow, with a 183.4 kilometer stage from Riemst to Sittard-Geleen.
