Defending champion, Tom Danielson, claimed stage 4 of this year’s Tour of Utah today, with a solo finish atop Powder Mountain.
Danielson attacked on the steepest part of today’s 9.8 kilometer climb, which featured average gradients between 10 and 15 percent, with a peak elevation of more than 8200 feet.
Last year’s Vuelta a Espana winner, Chris Horner (Lampre-Merida), struggled to stay on board with Danielson during the climb, and had to settle for third spot on the podium behind BMC’s Ben Hermans – at a minute behind.
Danielson now leads the Tour of Utah with a 56 second lead over Ben Hermans.
