Michael Schär claimed stage 2 of this year’s Tour of Utah – fending off a challenge from Joey Rosskopf during the last 12 miles.
The 27-year-old BMC rider broke free of his breakaway companions during the final climb of the day – and further increased his lead on the descent.
And, despite Rosskopf’s earnest pursuit, Schärd managed to maintain enough distance to not only seize the win, but collect enough points to earn the King of the Mountains jersey as well.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s second place finisher, Jure Kocjan (Team SmartStop), finished in second place, followed by Serghei Tvetcov (Team Jelly Belly) in third.
As result of today’s victory, Schär now wears the leader’s yellow jersey, as the race heads into Stage 3 tomorrow – a 190.3 kilometer route from Lehi to Miller Motorsports Park.
