Organizers for the Tour de France, Amaury Sports Organization (ASO), announced today, that Vincenzo Nibali will headline next year’s Tour of Oman.
“The Tour of Oman holds a special place in Nibali’s cycling memories,” it said in a statement. “He ended a 17-month drought following his first overall victory in a Grand Tour when he claimed stage 5 to Jabal Al Akhdhar/Green Mountain and carried on to his successful campaigns of the past three years at the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France.”
The Italian rider has perviously competed in the race, winning the toughest stage to the summit of Jabal Al Akhdhar — the Green Mountain. in 2012.

This year’s race will also feature other notable climbers, such as Joaquim Rodriguez, winner on the summit of the Green Mountain in 2013, Thibaut Pinot, Fabio Aru and Rigoberto Uran.
The field also includes French champion Arnaud Demare and his teammates Nacer Bouhanni and Warren Barguil, Switzerland’s Fabian Cancellara, Slovak Peter Sagan, American Tejay Van Garderen and several former world champions including Tom Boonen, Philippe Gilbert and Rui Costa.
