Mark Cavendish (Dimension Data) won the final stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour today, marking the second stage victory for the British rider in this year’s race.
Cavendish succeeding in fending-off a challenge from his closest rival, Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo), in a final dash for the line.
Meanwhile, Elia Viviani (Team Sky) finished a distant third to claim the last spot on the podium, while Tanel Kangert (Astana) finished safely in the peloton to secure the overall victory.
Race Highlights
Dimension Data and Astana featured prominently during most of today’s final stage.
Heading into the final corner, Mark Renshaw (Dimension Data) managed to create a significant gap for himself during the last few hundred meters.
As a result, Cavendish was initially detached from his main lead-out man, but the Manx Missile managed to pilot his way up to the front during the closing meters and seize the stage victory over Nizzolo during a final sprint for the line.
