As a follow-up to its popular GameChanger helmet, Abus has launched an updated version aptly called the GameChanger 2.0, focusing on improved aerodynamics, better ventilation and comfort, as well as enhanced safety courtesy of MIPS’ Air Node protection system.
While the GameChanger 2.0 appears to be very similar to its predecessor, the new lid sees three large vents added to the brow, a design change that Abus says results in not only a 20% improvement in ventilation, but is also designed to accommodate the current trend in oversized cycling glasses. Abus also points out, that the two outer vents can serve as a sunglass port as well.
Additionally, a perforated plastic structure that Abus calls an “aeroblade” has been added to the top of the GameChanger 2.0 to further improve aerodynamics and ventilation, while the helmet also comprises the German brand’s “ACTI Cage”, struts that run from front to rear that are designed to keep air flowing over the head at higher speeds.
Regarding aerodynamics, following extensive Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations, as well as wind tunnel and track testing, Abus claims the GameChanger 2.0 is 2% to 5% more slippery at speeds between 46kph to 52kph thanks to a new Kammtail that’s 11% longer, while the trailing edge at the top of the helmet been lowered by 8 degrees, a design queue that aids in improved airflow when riding in a head-down position.
Elsewhere, the GameChanger 2.0 relies on Abus’ straightforward retention system, which now features wider straps and a bigger anchor at the V section, as well as a new Fidlock magnetic buckle. Also, riders can fit Abus’s QUIN crash detector to their helmets, a system that uses accelerometers to detect a crash and quickly sends out alerts via Bluetooth and a smartphone.
The GameChanger 2.0 is available in three sizes, along with four color choices for €299.99. Opt out of the MIPs, and the color options increase to eleven, while the price drops to €279.99.
