Bike Ahead Composites has rolled out the latest version of its BiTurbo Aero wheelset aptly called the BiTurbo Aero 2.0, which features both wider external and internal widths, while the weight has also been reduced by more than 100 grams.
“The Aero 2.0 has a 48.5-millimeter profile-high rim has a special shape. This makes even more effective use of the so-called sail effect in crosswinds. The forward propulsion is higher when there is a side wind. This means that the speed increases with the same amount of force. The effect was confirmed in comparative tests in the wind tunnel. The difference to the BITURBO Aero is a noticeable 7 watts at 45 km/h and a 10-degree angle of attack. We worked with renowned experts from Bike Engineering to evaluate the wind tunnel data. Aerodynamics was only one criterion during development. Weight was also important. Lighter is always possible. But maximum lightweight construction alone does not make a good wheel. The focus of the BITURBO Aero 2.0 is therefore on the stiffness-to-weight factor. Weight and stiffness are in an optimal ratio. This guarantees perfect riding characteristics. This applies to hard pedaling as well as fast cornering. The stiffness-to-weight ratio was optimized with a new, innovative carbon layup, among other things. The weight of the wheel set was reduced to 1344 grams without compromising lateral stiffness. The front wheel weighs 624 grams, the rear wheel 720 grams,” says the German brand.
“The wheels are handmade in our factory. The high quality of workmanship makes it possible to dispense with paint. This saves weight. A complex finishing process gives the BITURBO wheels their typical matt, shimmering carbon look. The surface is sealed and scratch-resistant. The wheels feature original hub technology from DT Swiss. The BITURBO Aero 2.0 is available with freehubs for Sram, Shimano, and Campagnolo,” adds Bike Ahead Composites.
Specs:
The new BiTurbo Aero 2.0 wheelset sells for 4000€, which includes tubeless valves and wheelbags.
