Campagnolo Introduces New Gravel-Specific 13-Speed Super Record X Wireless Groupset and BORA X Wheelset

Borrowing heavily from its recently launched Super Record 13-speed Wireless groupset, Campagnolo has introduced a new gravel-specific version dubbed the Super Record X.

“The project was conceived as a versatile and cross-cutting platform providing the best configuration to every enthusiast. Preceded by the launch of the first 2×13-speed road groupset in June, the entire range of the Super Record 13 platform embodies a new expression of drivetrains designed to cover three cycling disciplines: road, gravel, and all road in all their nuances, starting with the Super Record X designed for the world of gravel cycling, paired with the new Bora X wheels,”explains Campagnolo.

The Super Record X features a long cage rear derailleur and Campagnolo’s Nano Clutch system that’s designed to reduce the risk of chain drop, which is configurable in eight chainring options and four different cassette ratios, while two different pulley diameters (12T and 16T) ensure “smooth, fast, precise, and silent shifting, even in the most extreme conditions”.

  • Cassette 9-42 in 9-10-11-12-13-14-16-18-21-25-30-36-42T
  • Cassette 10-48 in 10-11-12-13-14-16-18-21-25-30-36-42-48T
  • Chainrings 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, and 52T,

Additionally, the Super Record X sticks with the same carbon crankset, which spins on Campagnolo’s Ultra-Torque steel axle that’s been treated to a wider 152mm Q-factor in order to accommodate gravel bike frames that require greater tire clearance. Also, he groupset comes with the Italian brand’s QCK-Tech bottom bracket with an additional external seal that’s designed to keep out mud and dust.

Elsewhere, the same right-hand Ergopower shifter carries over from Super Record Road 2×13, complete with Campagnolo’s thumb shifter and “Smart Button”. However, the left shifter is all-new by virtue of the fact that there’s no need for electronics, while the brake levers remain identical.

Lastly, the MyCampy app allows owners to control and customize the groupset from their smartphone via Bluetooth, assigning different functions to buttons and levers, as well the ability to update firmware.

It’s also worth noting, at long last Campagnolo has finally developed satellite shifting for its Super Record 13 platform.

“This option originated directly during the races where Campagnolo has been present, constantly interacting with many athletes to offer them an even more personalized setting. The extra button offers the possibility of placing an additional shift lever on the cockpit in the position preferred by the individual cyclist, maximizing the ergonomics and functionality of the SR13 groupset to get the best out of your riding experience,” explains Campagnolo.

To round out the Super Record X groupset, Campagnolo has also introduced the new BORA X wheelset, featuring a hooked rim that’s 50mm deep with a 27mm internal width that’s compatible with tires from 35mm upwards, along with its G3 spoke technology that weighs in at an impressive 1,430 grams.

“The new BORA X brings the same racing characteristics as the prestigious road version to off-road cycling,” says Campagnolo. “Designed in the wind tunnel and tested on rough terrain, this wheel is built for speed, control, and vibration absorption in a variety of conditions.”

“The unidirectional fiber layup… is an adaptation of the road version, while the spoke pattern – despite inheriting the same G3 lacing geometry, an iconic Campagnolo feature – has been modified to meet the typical demands of fast gravel riding. The seven three-spoke sets use two different types of spokes per side: aerodynamic spokes on the cassette side of the rear wheel and on the brake disc side of the front wheel, to improve the aerodynamic penetration of a moving body and minimise frame turbulence; on the opposite sides, however, elliptical spokes, which are lighter and ideal for absorbing vibrations from the terrain and balancing the rigidity of the entire wheel,” Campagnolo further adds.

Pricing for the new Super Record X groupset starts at $3900, while Campagnolo’s HPPM power meter crankset can be added for an additional $1325. As for the BORA X wheelset, the new hoops fetch $2,600.
