Campagnolo has unveiled its latest Super Record S groupset, offering disciples of the vaunted Italian brand wireless, electronic shifting at a more affordable price compared to its flagship Super Record Wireless.
“The Super Record Wireless encompasses state-of-the-art wireless shifting technology which sets a new benchmark in precision and ensures seamless interaction between rider and bike. True to Campagnolo’s Dream Bigger ethos which is centered around ingenuity and standing out from the crowd, this innovative and special groupset is produced from the highest-specification carbon fiber, titanium and aluminum to provide maximum functionality at a minimal weight,” boasts Campagnolo.
According the Campagnolo, the Super Record S groupset offers the same functionality as its higher-tier Super Record Wireless, featuring the same shifter format. However, unlike its more expensive sibling, the carbon crankset is not hollowed out, adding a weight penalty of 150 grams. Also, the new groupset features a matte black UD finish instead of exposed carbon fiber.
Elsewhere, the Super Record S is offered in a range of six chainring combinations, the original sub-compact 45/29T, 48/32T and 50/34T, as well as 52/36T, 53/39T and 54/39T, while functionality retains the same removable derailleur batteries with easy to read LEDs to show battery life, along with connectivity to the MyCampy 3.0 app for button customization.
The new rear derailleur has also been simplified, featuring reshaped structural ribs and fewer cutouts along the cage, while the hydraulic brake system and front derailleur continue unchanged, albeit with a matte black UD carbon outer plate in place of exposed carbon fiber.
All things considered, the new Super Record S groupset sells for $1,110 less than Super Record, but it still fetches a hefty $4300.
It’s also worth mentioning, that Campagnolo decided to further dial in the styling quotient for the new Super Record S by offering its BORA Ultra WTO and standard BORA WTO wheelsets in the same matching matte black UD carbon finish.
Oddly though, the lengths that Campagnolo had to go through in order the create the same finish ended up adding to their cost.
