Canyon has introduced its latest Endurace:ONfly SUB10, the German brand’s lightest e-road bike to date, or anyone else’s for that matter.
As its name implies, the Endurace:ONfly SUB10 tips the scales at under 10kg for the top-tier model, courtesy of a TQ HPR 40 motor and a fully integrated 290Wh battery that can provide up to 200w of assistance and a top speed of 25km/h, while an optional TQ 160Wh water bottle-style range extender can increase the travel range to more than 62 miles (100km) and 2,000m of climbing on a full charge.
However, it isn’t just the drivetrain that helps the Endurace:ONfly SUB10 achieve its svelte weight, as the frame itself weighs in at under 1000 grams, an impressive feat for a conventional frame, let alone an e-road variant.
How?
According to Canyon, Endurace:ONfly SUB10 benefits from something called NeoBeam technology, a process that reduces tube wall thicknesses throughout the frame without compromising strength.
“At a mere 9.86 kg, the flagship Endurace:ONfly SUB10 is lighter than some non-powered road bikes. How’d we achieve the seemingly impossible? By employing NeoBeam. This is the same cutting-edge IsoGrid composite technology typically reserved for spare-no-expense aerospace products. NeoBeam is a revolution in carbon frame manufacturing. What you actually experience aboard every Endurace:ONfly model is a ride that’s startlingly effortless and responsive. It’s a new breed of e-bike that feels less like a machine and more like you… amplified,” boasts the German brand.
Additionally, all Endurace:ONfly models feature an integrated anti-theft motion detector and GPS tracker, so riders can see their bike’s location through the Canyon app, along with a LightSKIN U1 Ultra headlight and Canyon X Lupine SightStays that add additional visibility points at the back of the bike.
“We set out to create a new benchmark for e-road bikes, designing a bike that catches your eye with how it looks, how little it weighs, how it handles and how it uses tech like always-on lights, performance tuning and anti-theft to build the best e-road bike currently on the market,” says Bastian Langlitz, Canyon’s product manager.
Elsewhere, the Ultegra and Dura-Ace versions can control the function of the motor via the hoods, while a bar-end remote displays power status. Moreover, the TQ system also connects wirelessly to one’s phone or bike computer for full power and range metrics.
The Endurace:ONfly is available in four guises across seven sizes, with the entry-level CF-6 coming equipped with a Shimano 105 mechanical groupset and DT Swiss’s Endurance LN wheelset for £4,199, while the £5,149 CF7 is treated to electronic 105 Di2 and the same DT Swiss Endurance LN wheels, followed by the £6,499 CF8 that’s fitted with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 and DT Swiss ERC 1400 Dicut wheels.
As for the range-topping SUB10, it gets full-on Shimano Dura Ace Di2 with DT Swiss ERC 1100 Dicut wheels for £9,299.
