Cervélo has lifted the curtains on the latest iteration of its Áspero-5, calling it the “fastest aero gravel bike ever”, bold claims that are backed up by testing data that suggests it’s 37 watts faster than the outgoing model, as well as 34 watts faster than its closest competitor – the Ridley Kanzo.
“The all-new Áspero-5 was built for the front end of the race, and is the most aerodynamic gravel bike ever created. Cervélo has long been synonymous with aerodynamic performance, and we’ve brought that 30 years of expertise to gravel racing. The new bike is a stunning 37 Watts faster than the outgoing model, and 34 Watts faster than its nearest competitor. The Áspero-5 is ready to race the second it rolls off the shop floor. It made its rainbow-jersey debut (and won!) under UCI Gravel World Champion Marianne Vos, and will be campaigned by some of the most elite bike racers in the world,” boasts Cervélo.
To achieve this, Cervélo says it turned to its S5 aero road bike, honing a similar silhouette for the Áspero-5 that shares many of same angles and tube shapes as its road-going brethren – most notably the sloping top tube, the wheel cutout, the deep bottom bracket and the head tube profile, all-the-while shedding some 66 grams in weight.
Elsewhere, the Áspero-5 sees a new D-shaped seat post and the addition of Cervélo’s HB16 handlebar that allows for either fully or semi internal cabling, along with increased clearance and spacing that can accommodate tires up to 45mm and chainrings as big as 52t.
Additionally, the Áspero-5 gets both a T47 threaded bottom bracket and UDH adaptability.
