Colnago is flaunting its new G4-X gravel bike, replacing the outgoing G3-X with new changes to better suit the modern gravel racer such as greater tire clearance (up from 42mm to 45mm) and full internal cable routing and integration courtesy of the Italian brand’s CC.01 cockpit, with two variants on offer, the standard profile or the CC.01 Wide to choose from.
As its name suggests, the CC.01 Wide features a wider profile at the drops, flaring from the 40cm width at the hoods, while the bar also has a slightly shallower drop and reach than the standard cockpit, with the goal of putting the rider in more of a relaxed position to better control the bike on challenging terrain.
However, for riders who prefer a more traditional set-up, the G4-X can come equipped with a two-piece bar and stem from Deda with its Superzero Gravel Alloy bar paired with an RS10 Alloy stem.
Elsewhere, the G4-X follows the trend of a T-47 threaded bottom bracket, as well as a UDH rear derailleur hangar, for durability, ease of maintenance and future-proofing.
Additionally, the seatpost clamp area has also been bolstered, allowing riders to tighten the post with greater torque in an effort to combat any slippage over rough ground.
The G4-X is offered in a number of different builds spanning Shimano and SRAM groupsets. Oddly, there’s no Campagnolo Ekar option for those wishing to make it an Italian affair.
