Colnago Lifts the Curtains on New T1Rs Track Bike

After a long absence, Colnago has finally made a return to the boards with the launch of its T1Rs track bike, touting it as “most aerodynamic bike ever”.

Colnago officially lifted the curtains on the T1Rs during the London 3 Day track racing event at the Lee Valley Velodrome in the UK, revealing a bold new design that takes its queues from the Italian brand’s Y1Rs road bike, featuring an ultra narrow, flattened top tube, a dual fork crown, deep chain stays, aero-shaped dropouts, an oversized T47 bottom bracket with a reinforced seat tube and a fully integrated cockpit that’s all designed to cheat the wind.

“Throughout its more-than-70-year history, Colnago has written some of its most significant chapters on the track. With the T1Rs, which will make its race debut at the UCI London 3 Day event, the brand aims to add new and successful pages to this storied legacy The T1Rs has been meticulously designed and engineered to deliver uncompromising performance in the velodrome. Every line, every surface, and every component serves a single purpose: to minimize aerodynamic drag and convert every watt of power into pure forward motion. Drawing on the experience gained from the TT1 and Y1Rs projects — both benchmarks in Time Trial and Road Racing performance — the T1Rs takes those lessons to their ultimate expression. Freed from the constraints of road applications such as brakes and gears, our engineers have pushed the limits of aerodynamics and stiffness even further,” says Colnago.

“Track cyclists generate immense power, and the T1Rs is designed to handle it all — minimizing flex and ensuring that every watt of effort is transferred to the track. The T1Rs frame uses a track-specific carbon layup, blending high-strength, high-modulus fibers with internal reinforcement ribs. Strategic areas such as the seatpost, bottom bracket, and fork crown benefit from these structures, ensuring stiffness and durability even in the most demanding race conditions,” adds Colnago.

Additionally, Colnago designed two different cockpit variations for the T1Rs. For instance, the SR-Track stem is aimed at sprint and endurance events such as the keirin, which is compatible with a standard 31.8mm handlebar, while the T-shaped structure and its dual-bolt clamping system are designed for maximum torsional stiffness thats’s available in three lengths, 125mm, 150mm and 175mm with a negative rise of -6.5˚and the maximum stack height is only 20mm.

For time trial and pursuit events, the T1Rs can be fitted with the TT-Track cockpit that consists of a monocoque carbon stem and base bar unit that’s 38cm wide with a -17mm stack at the hoods, while the column base has a reach of 93mm and a stack of 25mm, relative to the frame. Moreover, for time trialing, the T1Rs can be fitted with modular aero extensions for multiple hand positions and optimized ergonomics.

“The geometry was carefully developed as a key part of the R&D process to suit any track discipline. Pursuit riders benefit from a low-stack, aerodynamic position, while endurance and sprint riders enjoy extended reach and exceptional front-end stiffness — even with long stems. Steering angle and fork rake are precisely tuned to ensure stability and control during rapid accelerations and sharp directional changes, delivering peak performance on every lap”, says Colnago.

The T1Rs is available in three sizes, small, medium and large, along with geometry to match the specific demands of different track races such as varying reach and stack ratios, while the low-stack cockpit enables a tucked position. For endurance and sprint races, the frame has an extended reach, with the bike almost hitting the UCI length limit in a size large.

The T1Rs frameset sells for €6,500, roughly $6,950.00, which comes with a seatpost, clamp and small parts.

Accessory kits include:

  • Endurance/Sprint Kit: €250
