The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced today, that Androni Giocattoli – Sidermec’s Davide Appollonio has been provisionally suspended, after testing positive for the banned substance EPO, in a drug test that was conducted earlier this month.
The test result came from a sample taken on June 14, after Appollonio finished the Giro d’Italia. He later went on to win the points classification in the Slovenia tour, which ran from June 18 to 21.
Prior to signing with the Androni team, Appollonio first rode for the Cervelo Test team in 2009 and 2010. He later spent two years with Team Sky for the 2011 and 2012 seasons, followed by a short stint with Ag2r La Mondiale.
Under UCI rules, Appollonio may request a B sample to confirm the test result.
