Bora-Argon 18 upset every prediction in today’s opening team time trial, and gave Cesare Benedetti the first leader’s jersey of this year’s Giro del Trentino.
“We made a sprint for the line, but my teammates were happy that I eventually won it – Benedetti told, – I always put my best effort to the team’s service, and this jersey is a great reward for many tough moments. It is great for me to take the start from Dro – where I started racing – tomorrow in the leader’s jersey, and wear it on my training roads…”
Meanwhile, Team Sky and Astana claimed second and third spots on the podium, albeit a bittersweet consolation for Team Sky, who clocked almost the same time as the winners – surrendering the lead by a matter of one hundredths of second.
Race Highlights
Bora-Argon 18 set the fastest time time around today’s 13.3 kilometer course on the shore of Lake Garda, with an average speed of 56.643kph.
However, despite being four seconds down on the German team at the mid-way point, Team Sky made up for lost time during the second half of the course, with the British team falling just short of the stage victory.
In the meantime, despite being down on man-power, Astana produced an impressive result, finishing just four seconds down on Bora-Argon 18 and Sky.
