Organizers of the Giro d’Italia have announced the wildcard teams for 2024, with the automatic invitee Israel-Premier Tech being joined by the Italian ProTeams VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè and Polti-Kometa, as well as the Swiss squad Tudor Pro Cycling.
Meanwhile, Lotto Dstny and IPT declined its invite for the second year running, with the Belgian team instead opting to focus on the Tour Down Under, Tirreno Adriatico, Tour of the Basque Country and Tour of Poland in 2024.
The unselected Corratec-Vini Fantini team was left disappointed today after it made its debut at its home grand tour last season.
For Tudor Pro Cycling, this will mark the team’s Grand Tour debut.
“It is a very proud moment both for me and for the entire team,” said team founder Fabian Cancellara. “The Giro d’Italia is such an iconic race. It always delivers fantastic racing and brings forth the true passion for cycling in Italy.
“I keep great memories of my own experience at the race even though I never managed to take a win. I can’t wait to see the Tudor Pro Cycling team play an active role there and would like to thank RCS for their trust in our project.”
The Swiss-based squad impressed in its first two years of racing and last season saw a breakout victory at Milano-Torino with Arvid de Kleijn.
Tudor Pro Cycling went all-in on going a level up this winter with a host of top signings.
Matteo Trentin, Michael Storer, and Alberto Dianese are among the new arrivals that will bring the team winning watts and WorldTour experience in 2024.
“The invitation is a great recognition of the work that has been done by the entire team since we entered the pro ranks last year, said team CEO Raphael Meyer.
“It can seem like a big step forward for our young team, but we feel it is a logical evolution. We have taken steps including the signing of experienced riders and staff to be ready to perform at this level. We will be racing there with the same daring spirit we have shown last season, and we aim to bring home a stage win.”
