Goodyear has expanded its category of road tires with the launch of four new models, resulting in no fewer than 47 different variants that span its Ultra High-Performance (UHP) and High-Performance (HP) ranges, marking the largest array of new tires from the brand since it reentered the bike segment in 2018.
The new tires include the Eagle F1 SuperSport R, which are designed for time trial and road race use, to the Vector Sport that focuses on protection and durability.
Goodyear categorizes the new Eagle F1 SuperSport R and Eagle F1 R as ultra-high performance tires that are designed for road racing and time-trials, offering low rolling resistance and weight, while the Eagle and Vector Sport tires are aimed at being more all-rounders, placing greater emphasis on balance grip, puncture protection and durability.
According to Goodyear, the result is a claimed reduction in rolling resistance between 31.9% and 36.1% for the Eagle F1 SuperSport R, and between 13% and 15.7% for the Eagle F1 R, when tested across tire pressures ranging from 60psi to 100psi.
Top billing goes to the Eagle F1 SuperSport R tire, which Goodyear says tips the scales at 190g for the tubed version, and 235g for the tubeless option, making it one of the lightest tubeless tires available thanks to its 150tpi “short-ply” casing and new rubber compound called Dynamic:UHP.
Meanwhile, the Eagle F1 R is designed as a high performance all-round tire for both wet and dry conditions, which comprises the same short-ply casing, but with a slightly lower 120tpi construction, weighing in at 280g for the 25mm tubeless version, an 8% reduction over the previous generation Eagle F1.
The third new tire, the Eagle, is also more of an all-rounder, with durability and puncture protection being its main focus, relying on a 60tpi single ply tubeless casing that Goodyear says is less prone to cuts and abrasion damage than those with higher thread counts. Also, the tire gets the brand’s Dynamic:HP rubber compound, as well as an R-Shield breaker belt for puncture protection.
Finally, the Vector Sport tire is geared towards endurance, which features enhanced puncture protection courtesy of a dual anti-puncture belt and 60tpi carcass, while a new tread pattern and thicker rubber add to the tire’s longevity, tipping the scales at 320g in the 25mm version.
As mentioned, Goodyear has two new tire compounds across the range, the Dynamic:UHP (standing for ultra-high performance) compound that’s used in the Eagle F1 SuperSport and Eagle F1 R tires, while the Eagle and Vector Sport get the Dynamic:HP compound that’s designed to improve puncture protection.
Additionally, the new tires are designed to work with both hooked and compatible hookless rims.
