Hunt is defying gravity with the launch of its new Hill Climb SL Disc wheelset, tipping the scales at an astonishingly light 963 grams, an extremely impressive feat for rim brake wheels, let alone disc.
Relying on a tubular design, the Hill Climb SL Disc wheelset features a special unidirectional carbon fiber construction that utilizes a 30mm-deep profile paired with a 26mm internal rim width. According to Hunt, the wheels can accommodate tires ranging from 23-28mm, while things spin on the British brand’s CMC-machined heat-treated 6066-T6 aluminum body H_Ratchet UD SL hubs, which use a 40T ratchet drive with nine degrees of engagement.
Elsewhere, the new hoops comprise Hunt’s UD carbon TaperLock spokes with steel mandrils placed at each end of the attachment points, so there’s no need for resin bonding. Hunt also points out, the rear hub can be configured for Shimano/SRAM 8/9/10/11 speed groupsets, as well as SRAM XD/XDR and Campagnolo 8/9/10/11/12 speed and EKAR drivetrains. Moreover, Shimano’s new 12-speed cassettes are backward compatible with 11-speed hubs, ensuring perfect compatibility with both.
The new Hill Climb SL Disc wheelset is reasonably priced at $1,699.00, which is available for pre-order at Hunt’s website here.
