The Uber Lords of carbon fiber at Lightweight have unveiled a new range of disc brake specific, tubeless ready wheelsets called Generation EVO.
According to Lightweight, the new range of wheels feature an all-new carbon fiber construction including spokes made with what the German brand refers to as special “CRGP Fibers”, creating enough strength and reliability deemed worthy of the gravel and cyclocross segments, including a new combined weight standard of 265 pounds (120kg) for rider and bike.
The gravel/cyclocross focused variants of the new range consist of the 48mm Meilenstein EVO, which weighs in at a claimed 1,380g and costs £4,499, along with the 38mm profile Wegweiser EVO that tips the scales at 1,450g and sells for £3,499.
The time trial and triathlon segments weren’t forsaken here either, with Lightweight offering the Fernweg EVO in both 65mm and 85mm versions that weigh in at 1,695g and 1,765g respectively, and cost a whopping £7,319.
“What once started with a lot of work in a garage soon became a phenomenon for the world of professional cycling. Lightweight’s carbon wheels took the roads by storm and were significantly improved with each generation. Every wheel became an icon in its own respective area and that is not only thanks to the vision and knowledge of the workers at Lightweight, but also their dedication”, says Lightweight.
“But how do you improve something that is already nearly perfect? This was exactly the goal for the new Generation EVO and after a long research and development period the time has finally come. MEILENSTEIN EVO, FERNWEG EVO 63, FERNWEG EVO 85 and WEGWEISER EVO are ready to be ridden and stun with their wide range of features.
A new layup, the integration of tubeless technology and the application of special CFRP fibers do not only make the new Generation EVO more stable, more durable and more efficient but also more versatile than ever. For the rider, this means an even more efficient power transmission, excellent handling, improved rolling characteristics, more precise and safe braking performance and, most of all, more speed. Despite the tremendous stiffness, the comfort factor could be significantly improved – long rides will now be even more power saving. The time for the new generation has come – either you ride it, or you’ll be overtaken by it,” the company adds.
