Happy birthday to Martin Van Den Bossche, who was born on this day in 1941.
The Belgian rider is best known for finishing 3rd in the 1970 Giro d’Italia behind Eddy Merckx of Belgium and Felice Gimondi of Italy. He also won the Mountains Jersey in that year’s race as well.
In addition, Van Den Bossche began his career by winning the Belgian amateur national road championship 1959. And, from there, he went on to win several lesser known races throughout Belgium and France, to include the Giro del Lazio in 1972.
