Mavic has thrown its hat (yes, that was a pun) into the premium helmet segment with the launch of its latest Comete SL MIPS helmet, offering what the French brand describes as “the best balance between ventilation and aerodynamics for committed road, gravel and XC riders who desire fast and safe rides.”
Following extensive testing at the Geneva Wind Tunnels, the Comete SL’s aero-optimized shape is not only designed to cheat the wind, but offer optimal ventilation courtesy of front vents that channel air throughout the helmet, generating optimal airflow especially when the mercury spikes during hot riding conditions.
Elsewhere, the Comete SL is treated to Mavic’s Ergo Hold SL+ retention system that offers “pinpoint adjustability and comfortable head hold”, while the Autofit straps are designed to resist twisting and fit seamlessly with glasses. Moreover, there’s plenty of XRD memory foam along the forehead to ensure comfort, while a “helmet garage” allows riders to safely stow their shades when not in use.
Regarding safety, the Comete SL relies on the MIPS Safety System to protect riders against brain injury, along with extended rear coverage for back-of-the-head protection. Plus, the sides and rear of the helmet both feature reflective zones to enhance visibility during low-light riding conditions.
The Comete SL is available in three sizes, along with four stylish colorways for $180.
